Applications of the Homogenization Method to Material Design
نویسندگان
چکیده
The homogenization method is applied to obtain the preferred mechanical characteristics of materials. Since the homogenization method takes into account the effect of microstructural configuration to characterize thermo-mechanical properties of composite materials based on the asymptotic expansion method, our design methods can reflect the micromechanical responses. Two examples of the design-oriented applications are presented: one is the combination with the so-called voxel digitization method to generate finite element models of microstructures based on image processing technology and the other is the inverse optimization together with the generalized layout design method of a structure. While the former finds the optimal material and material configurations of composites, the latter creates the material with properties not hitherto available in single phase materials.

This paper presents the bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) method for the design of two-phase composite materials with optimal properties of stiffness and thermal conductivity. The composite material is modelled by microstructures in a periodical base cell (PBC). The homogenization method is used to derive the effective bulk modulus and thermal conductivity. متن کاملDesign and evaluate alginate nanoparticles as a protein delivery system
In recent years, encapsulation of drugs and antigens in hydrogels, specifically in calcium alginate particles, is an interesting and practical technique that was developed widespread. It is well known that alginate solution, under proper conditions, can form suitable nanoparticles as a promising carrier system, for vaccine delivery. The aim of this study was to synthesis alginate nanoparticles ...
متن کاملDesign of smart composite materials using topology optimization
The topology optimization method is used to find the distribution of material phases that extremizes an objective function (e.g., thermal expansion coefficient, piezoelectric coefficients etc) subject to constraints, such as elastic symmetry and volume fractions of the constituent phases, within a periodic base cell. The effective properties of the material structures are found using a numerica...
